Nostalgia In Grand-Place : Chick Corea • TRIBUTE

Furmi Gomez (alto sax) ; Simon Groppe (p) ; Géraud Portal (b) ; Gabriel Moraes (dr)

Few pianists have left as deep a mark on the history of jazz as Chick Corea.
At once a towering improviser, a remarkable composer and a tireless explorer, he spent more than half a century moving through very different musical worlds, leaving his imprint on each of them: acoustic and electric, the most demanding jazz as well as more popular forms, sophisticated writing as well as the freest improvisation.

First brought to wider public attention through his collaborations with Miles Davis, and later through legendary groups such as Return to Forever, Chick Corea developed a language that was instantly recognisable: a touch that was both percussive and lyrical, an extraordinary sense of rhythm, a deep love of strong melodies, and that uniquely personal way of bringing together virtuosity, clarity and the sheer joy of playing. His music, shaped by classical, Spanish and Latin influences, continues to inspire generations of musicians.

It is into this rich, vibrant and deeply open musical world that Furmi Gomez invites us, for a Nostalgia In Grand Place devoted to one of the great architects of modern jazz.
