Dexter Gordon was one of the true giants of the tenor saxophone, an emblematic figure of bebop and hard bop, with a sound both broad, warm, and instantly recognizable. His elegant phrasing and charisma made him one of the most important musicians in the history of jazz and an absolute reference for his instrument.

Anyone who knows Vincent Thekal knows the deep respect he has for Dexter and the decisive influence Gordon has had on his playing. As part of our Nostalgia in Grand Place series, he pays tribute by revisiting Dexter’s repertoire with passion and reverence.
