Robert Jukic invites Flip Philipp • One time only
Robert Jukic (b) ; Flip Philipp (vb) ; Wolfi Rainer (dr) ; Toine Thys (ts)
As part of his carte blanche, which has already given us several fine moments this year, Robert Jukic now brings together two leading Austrian percussionists: drummer Wolfi Rainer and, above all, the remarkable vibraphonist Flip Philipp.
Equally at home in classical music and jazz, and a long-standing member of the prestigious Vienna Symphonic Orchestra, Flip Philipp has built an impressive career, collaborating with names as varied as Joe Zawinul, Diana Ross, Idris Muhammad, Charles Aznavour, Jure Pukl and Lalo Schifrin.
Completing the quartet is a familiar figure on the Brussels scene: saxophonist Toine Thys, whose musical voice is instantly recognisable.
With a line-up like this, expect music that is alive, dynamic and constantly shifting, where the groove settles in and the interaction does the rest.
A band brought together for the occasion — and the sort of evening where anything might happen.
