Pat Metheny

Nostalgia In Grand-Place : Pat Metheny • Tribute

Alain Pierre (guit) ; Antoine Pierre (drums) ; Victor Foulon (b)

As part of the Nostalgia in Grand Place series, Alain Pierre pays tribute to one of the most distinctive and influential voices in the history of contemporary jazz: Pat Metheny.

Emerging in the 1970s as an exceptional guitarist and composer, Pat Metheny profoundly reshaped the language of modern jazz. Through his instantly recognisable sound, his lyrical sense of melody, his harmonic explorations and his taste for open forms, he has built a musical universe where lyricism, virtuosity, electric textures, American folk, Brazilian music and improvisation all meet.

With pieces that have become emblematic, such as Phase Dance, Bright Size Life, Are You Going with Me? and Last Train Home, Pat Metheny forged a unique path — a music that is at once luminous, expansive and deeply sensitive, where sophisticated writing meets the spirit of travel, the freedom of jazz and a form of sonic poetry that is immediately recognisable.

Through this programme, Alain Pierre explores that legacy with both respect and freedom, reconnecting with the spirit of a music in which space, breath, listening and storytelling hold a central place.

A return to a jazz of landscapes, movement and emotion.
