Laurent Maur & Dominique Vantomme Quartet • Toots Legacy
Laurent Maur (harm.) ; Dominique Vantomme (keys) ; Victor Foulon (b) ; Mimi Verderamme (dr)
Following in the footsteps of Toots Thielemans, who more or less invented the use of the harmonica in jazz and remained for decades its almost sole representative, is a challenge very few have dared to take on. Among that select few, Laurent Maur has, in recent years, established himself as one of the three finest jazz harmonica players in the world. With his lyrical sense of melody, his virtuosity and the emotional depth of his playing, he belongs to a great tradition while asserting a voice that is unmistakably his own.
It is therefore only fitting that he should perform at the Toots, our intimate shrine to the memory of the great Belgian jazzman, where the mouth organ will resound with an almost sacred intensity — louder, perhaps, than an organ in a cathedral.
The French musician comes with his Belgian band for an evening that promises, once again, to be unforgettable — and for anyone visiting Brussels, it is precisely the kind of concert that can turn a night in the city into a lasting memory.
