Wouter Van den Broeck swings like few others — you may well know him from his monthly appearances with our house swing orchestra. But tonight, he steps into the spotlight as a leader to present the second album from his acoustic quintet Don Marsh V : IANUA.
The title references both the Latin word for "door" and Janus, the two-faced Roman god — an image that speaks volumes about Van den Broeck's music : melodies that develop, transform and push through doors towards new musical dimensions, while remaining firmly rooted in the very heart of jazz : swing, groove and the kind of spontaneous interaction that only happens when musicians truly listen to one another.
