Saxophonist Steven Delannoye has chosen the Toots to present his brand-new project on stage. For this debut performance, he will be performing as part of a quartet with Italian pianist Nicola Andrioli – a long-standing musical partner with whom he collaborates closely, notably on a highly acclaimed duo album – and a rhythm section featuring some of the very best musicians in Flanders.
Having been active on the jazz scene for many years, Steven Delannoye has built up a wealth of experience. A graduate of the Lemmens Institute 20 years ago, he has been involved in numerous high-calibre collaborations (with Eric Vloeimans, Stéphane Belmondo, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, and others). In 2009, a scholarship took him to the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where he worked intensively alongside pianist Phil Markowitz. An artist-in-residence at KU Leuven from 2012 to 2014, he was also honoured by the Gent Jazz Festival in 2016.
Over the past ten years, he has developed numerous personal projects: his “New York Trio” featuring Frank Vaganée as a guest, an unconventional duo with cellist Lode Vercampt, and the group “Brandhaard”, which has performed at venues such as Jazz Brugge and the Edinburgh Jazz Festival. Alongside this, he is the tenor saxophonist and resident arranger for the Jazz Station Big Band in Brussels.
Musically, Steven is renowned for his modern and energetic playing. He is particularly fond of subtle interactions with his fellow musicians, always seeking to explore the finer nuances of musical expression.
A wonderful opportunity to experience first-hand the birth of a new project featuring top-class musicians.
