Nostalgia In Grand Place : Bud Powell • Tribute
Joachim Caffonnette (p) ; Jean-Paul Estievenart (tr) ; Jasen Weaver (b) ; Armando Luongo (dr)
Alongside Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and his close friend Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell stands as one of the founding fathers of be-bop. A troubled genius, scarred by a brutal police beating that triggered lasting mental health struggles, he left behind a body of deeply inspired compositions, several of which became some of the most played standards in the jazz repertoire.
Today, Joachim Caffonnette presents a selection of works by this giant of the piano and of be-bop, joined by a stellar band, with the themes carried by the trumpet of Jean-Paul Estiévenart.
