Nostalgia In Grand-Place : Mulgrew Muller • TRIBUTE
Jasen Weaver (b) ; Carlos Veitia (tp) ; Federico Milone (as) ; Vincent Bruyninckx (p) ; Matthias De Waele (dr)
Among the great jazz pianists of his generation, Mulgrew Miller is not always the first name that comes up — perhaps because he spent most of his career accompanying giants such as Art Blakey, Jackie McLean, Freddie Hubbard, Woody Shaw, and Joe Henderson.
But overlooking his work as a composer and bandleader, notably alongside Kenny Garrett, would be unfair.
Inspired, standing between the bebop of his hero Bud Powell and the modal spirit of McCoy Tyner or Ahmad Jamal, Miller remains a giant too seldom celebrated.
For this Nostalgia in Grand Place edition, bassist Jasen Weaver pays him a deserved and heartfelt tribute.
