Nostalgia In Grand-Place : Thelonious Monk & Bud Powell • Tribute

Bart Defoort (ts) ; Joachim Caffonnette (p) ; Jasen Weaver (b) ; Armando Luongo (dr)

Despite their very different styles, Thelonious Monk and Bud Powell shared a deep bond — almost brotherly. Two essential figures of bebop, two singular minds, two completely personal ways of making the piano speak… yet a mutual respect that shaped the history of jazz.

Monk: the ultimate iconoclast, one of a kind, a master of space and silence as much as of dissonance.
Powell: raw and brilliant, often seen as Charlie Parker’s true piano alter ego — a bebop powerhouse, both fragile and blazing.

It’s around these two giants — and the strong, mysterious connection between them — that Bart Defoort decided to build the repertoire for this project. A dive into a burning, inventive world where the music is played with instinct, risk, and heart.

KEY TIME : APERO WITH JOACHIM CAFFONNETTE AND JEAN-PAUL ESTIEVENART
