Sal La Rocca, a double bassist of Sicilian origin, returns with a new project, one that is vastly different from his previous ones. He performs here as part of a quintet, with a brand-new line-up.
On tenor saxophone is Steven Delannoye, and on drums Umberto Odone – two musicians Sal met in Brussels during a jam session, whose energy and passion quickly won him over.
On piano is the incomparable Igor Gehenot, whose percussive playing, tinged with Caribbean influences, brings warmth and openness to the music.
Phil Abraham, who already featured on Sal La Rocca’s latest album, joins the band and adds beautiful textures that showcase the bandleader’s compositions. Groovy, luminous and resolutely optimistic compositions.
