Initiated by Brussels saxophonist Toine Thys — Octave de la Musique 2021 and a familiar name on the European jazz scene — ORLANDO brings together a Franco-Belgian quartet made up of musicians among the most creative of their generation.
With this project, Toine Thys explores an adventurous yet welcoming musical landscape, where compositions leave plenty of room for collective playing, sound textures and space. The group moves fluidly between carefully crafted writing and more open moments, shaping a repertoire that is as varied as it is often joyful.
Their latest album, “Betterlands”, captures the chemistry between four strong musical personalities who place listening and interaction at the centre of their music. A sound that breathes, evolves and takes shape in real time.
Alongside Toine Thys on saxophones, bass clarinet and electronics, the quartet features a top-tier rhythm section: Teun Verbruggen on drums, Maxime Sanchez on piano and Florent Nisse on double bass.
