Manolo Cabras Quartet • Jazz Without a Net

Jean-Paul Estiévenart (trpt) ; Nicola Andrioli (p) ; Manolo Cabras (b) ; Marek Patrman (dr)

Born in Sardinia, Manolo Cabras is today one of the most active double bass players on the Belgian jazz scene. After a period in the Netherlands, he settled in Belgium and gradually established himself as one of the most creative musicians on the European scene. Early in his career, he was notably a member of the groups of Enrico Rava and Toots Thielemans — not a bad way to start.

In Belgium, he is well known for his long-standing collaboration with the trio of Erik Vermeulen, as well as for his work with Manuel Hermia, Ben Sluijs and many others. A first-class sideman, highly sought after on the scene.

But for several years now, Manolo Cabras has also been leading his own quartet, a high-level band bringing together some of the most inspired improvisers from our small country. Tonight, he presents a new album, driven by a kind of musical interaction that can feel almost acrobatic — as fascinating to watch as it is to hear.

Let yourself be carried away.
